Subject: The Emergence (Year 0)

[Record | High confidence] The spike in the chaos variable during the initial Emergence remains the primary mystery of the Threshold Years. My current theory is a spontaneous singularity in the Weave’s logic.

I have adjusted the constant for the third time this century. The "breathing" rhythm persists. I suspect my instruments are reacting to the tectonic shifts in the Summer Isles rather than a true cosmic oscillation.

I. Names Given to the Same Event

Different schools insist on different titles. None agree on cause; all agree on consequence.

  • “The Emergence” (Archives): neutral, descriptive.
  • “The First Opening” (temple registries): implies a granted doorway.
  • “The Great Shiver” (folk accounts): emphasizes felt bodily unease.
  • “The Unquiet Dawn” (older marginalia): emphasizes the sense that “morning began” differently thereafter.

[Consensus | Medium confidence] These names cluster around the same span of days and the same pattern of reports: ordinary order persisted, but began to admit contradiction.

II. What the Archives Are Willing to Claim

The practical results, as later centuries can verify:

  • small workings became repeatable,
  • rites began to produce consistent outcomes between practitioners,
  • and certain places acquired stable reputations as “easier” or “harder” for breach.

Hypothesis A — Spontaneous Singularity in Weave Logic

This hypothesis matches the shape of the chaos spike and the long aftermath of altered practice, but it is difficult to test without recreating what we should not recreate.

Hypothesis B — Geologic / Place-Resonance Shift

[Hypothesis | Medium confidence] The “Emergence” may be partly a cartographic illusion: instruments and witnesses congregated around certain lands (notably the Summer Isles), and the world’s place-accords changed, not the world entire.

This would explain why the “breathing rhythm” persists across centuries of observation, and why it tracks certain regions more strongly than others.

Hypothesis C — The Recognition Threshold

[Inference | Medium confidence] A breach becomes heavier when minds recognize it as real. A culture that crosses a recognition threshold (by teaching, recording, and enforcing a practice) may change the statistical ecology of breach without any single cosmic cause.

This explanation is socially irritating and therefore often ignored. It is also disturbingly consistent with what happens when a miracle becomes doctrine.
